Kia Officially Launches the EV6 GT-Line

Kia officially launches the EV6 and we finally get a price tag for it. It will sell for 3.788 million pesos.  Kia Philippines Officially launches the Kia EV6 At that price Kia didn't scrimp on any feature as the locally available EV6 GT line gets practically the same spec sheet as the rest of the world. It has almost every driver aid that you could expect from a modern car. It has adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and a 360 camera system which you can view through a 12in screen. The looks and the tech are a nice bonus but the reason that you buy this car is its fully electric drivetrain. Its 77.4kWh battery can power the car for over 500kms, the longest range of any locally available EV. And its 229hp and 350Nm of torque can propel the exotic looking EV from 0-100kph in just 7.2 seconds. It feels faster than it looks on paper It also has V2L or vehicle to load which allows it to power household devices. They demonstrated this at the launch event by serving us coffee w...

Jetour officially launches in the Philippines with 3 new models

Jetour officially launches in the Philippines with 3 new models The Jetour Ice Cream EV currently holds the title of the cutest thing on 4 wheels. I believe It also holds the title of being the most affordable fully enclosed, 4-seater, road-legal, air-conditioned electric vehicle. It's priced at just 699k pesos and has a range of 170k kms. I say, that's more than enough range for city use. You can buy two of these, use them alternately for twice the range and you still wouldn't have spent half of what your average EV costs. It only has 27hp and 85Nm of torque but that's enough to propel the 743kg car to a maximum speed of 100kph.  The Jetour Ice Cream is the cutest thing on 4 wheels The  Jetour Dashing  is one dashing crossover, pun definitely intended. It looks like a mini Lamborghini Urus. The interior is very minimalist in a tesla-eque kind of way. You have a huge ipad like screen at the center with very few physical buttons. It also comes with ADAS. It's pri...

Thinking of cars as investments

Some people are under the impression that people buy used cars because they can’t afford brand new ones. This is sometimes the case but not always. Some people buy used cars not because they can’t afford brand new cars but because they know that buying used cars is a much better financial decision. You don’t realize it until it’s time to sell your car but depreciation is the thing that you pay for the most when buying a brand new car. More than the maintenance, more than the repairs and more than the car’s yearly registration combined. Brand new cars are killed by depreciation right after they roll off the dealership and into your hands. Let’s consider one of the most popular car models in the Philippines as a case study, the Toyota Vios. A brand new 2016 vios E automatic costs about 800k+ here in the Philippines. A 2 nd hand 2015 vios E automatic costs around 450k. In a period of around a year, you’d be losing 350k if you buy a brand new vios. That’s almost half the value of the...

Project "Vader" BMW E39 part 1

One could buy a car that has no issues but where's the challenge in that? This is Vader. She's a very classy but also very badass looking BMW E39, 523i. she was bought with a few minor issues but she has 18in schnitzer mags, She’s completely facelifted, she looks good inside out and most importantly, she only has 57k on the odo. She was barely used by her previous owner but underuse could also do bad things to a car. I thought I’d document my progress so those who are interested could have a reference on what it’s like to restore a euro car with some minor issues. it’s not for people who don’t have a lot of time in their hands. Repairing a bmw or a benz is going to be more expensive than repairing your average japanese car but if you know where to look, it's not going to be as expensive as most people think If you've ever seen an episode of Wheeler's dealers, this will be my version of it. Front passenger's side door When I first teste...

Aurelio, the first Filipino supercar (first impressions/early review)

Sometimes there can be a disconnect between what one sees in the details and what one sees in the overall picture. A good example would be excrement art. If you would look at its composition, namely poop, you might question its aesthetic merits. But if you'd look at the entire work, you might find that it transcends the sum of its individual parts (big emphasis on might) This is perhaps not the best analogy for a car but I'll get to my point in a while. This bunny is made out of human excrement I first heard about the Aurelio a few years ago. Bac k then I thought it was going to be called the "Pacita fibertech". A car name that is just slightly more glamorous than "Nene" or "Erning." The specs back then were sparse. I was expecting 200hp+ and a rolling chassis based on a Japanese car. I thought to myself, ferrari 458 copy on top of a japanese subcompact chassis. Meh. Now the specs are out and I finally got to see the car in per...
